A Togolese arrested in Nigeria for theft; facts
Police say they apprehended Jackson when the complainant, Egbujor Stella Uzoamaka reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ikoyi Division, CSP Tijani Mustapha N’abba.
According to her deposition, she had left her cook at home in trust for work and that before she returned, her cook broke into her apartment to steal her diamond ring and gold necklace worth 1 €900 and escaped.
The police, after days of intelligence gathering, found the accused in a hideout in Lagos and arrested him.
Jackson was charged in the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Conspiracy and theft are the two counts brought against the cook.
The accused, however, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, and the magistrate, MBA Shonuga, is seeking bail of N300,000.
Shonuga adjourned the case until April 18, 2022, and ordered that the Togolese be held at the Ikoyi Correctional Institution until he perfected bail conditions.
