Senegal lost this Friday in Cairo for the first leg of the double final against Egypt in the play-offs of the 2022 World Cup. In a press conference after the match, Aliou Cissé, the coach of the Lions delivered his analyzes and mentioned his prospects for the return match.

“We can’t be satisfied with the result but on the content, I think we did some very interesting things which give us hope. Maybe, after today’s result, he will have a physical advantage for Egypt but we have the chance to receive at home in the second leg. It’s up to us to do the work to try to win this match.”

Do you think you can turn things around after this loss?

“I was clear with the boys. Before the game, I let them know it was a first leg and whatever happens here today gives our team an opportunity to qualify. These are situations we have already experienced but I think we have the mind and the experience to be able to qualify. If we manage to score our chances, I think we can win.

Changes to the second leg?

“I’m completely happy with the team composition I put together today, although I didn’t like a few things in the first half. Football is about efficiency and Egypt were efficient today unlike us. We have to work on that. It is not an individual or system problem.”

What do you think will be decisive for the second leg?

“Our players want to go to the World Cup, we all want to go. We have the means to beat Egypt at home. We have to prepare well. Today’s result does not decide the outcome of this double confrontation. There will be a decisive match in Dakar. It is up to us to do what is necessary to win.”
