Alkaline diet: What it is and what you should watch out for

One of the most popular diets is the alkaline one that Hollywood stars love and it took off when Victoria Beckham stated that she follows it literally.

Alkaline diet claims that not only can it help with weight loss, but it also helps prevent problems such as arthritis and cancer.

What is an alkaline diet

First of all, to understand what an alkaline diet is, we need a little chemistry lesson. This diet aims to balance the PH in our body. Our blood should have a PH of 7.3 to 7.4. So according to the alkaline diet depending on the foods we consume we can change the PH in the blood and thus prevent many health problems and weight gain.

But to maintain the PH always according to the principles of the alkaline diet, we must consume 60% alkaline foods and 40% acidic, while to change an unbalanced PH we must increase the percentages to 80% to 20%.

As we understand in the vital organs as well as in the blood it is not possible to have significant changes since this could be fatal for humans, while in fact these changes that occur in the pH of urine aim to maintain a constant PH in our blood.

Acidic foods generally include meat, poultry, fish, eggs, alcohol, and whole grains. Neutral foods are vegetable oils, starchy foods and sugars, while alkaline foods consist of vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts.

But will you lose weight if you follow the alkaline diet?

The answer is that you will lose, but not for the reason you believe. The main reason you can lose weight is because during the alkaline diet you do not consume processed foods such as pizza, sweets, chocolates.

But as for the claims that the food we eat can affect the PH, they have no scientific basis. In fact, our body regulates its acidity on its own.

The benefits that may result from an alkaline diet come from increased consumption of fruits and vegetables and avoidance of processed foods.

But we could not recommend it to the general population as an exclusive diet as this would exclude important food groups useful equally useful for our body.

And to close I would like to say that we must not forget that in the modern approach to healthy eating nothing is forbidden, everything is allowed, as long as it is consumed in moderation.
