Anonymous: the group of hackers announces that they have hacked into the Central Bank of Russia; confidential files soon published on the web

International hacker collective Anonymous has claimed to have hacked into Russia’s Central Bank – and is threatening to release 35,000 files containing “secret deals” in the next 48 hours.

The bank is responsible for protecting and providing security for the rouble, the Russian currency whose value has plummeted since the start of the invasion of Ukraine last month.

Through a post on Twitter, Anonymous revealed their latest hack with brief details.

Alongside an image of a smiling face mask, the group wrote: “JUST IN: #Anonymous collective hacked Russia’s Central Bank. More than 35,000 files will be released within 48 hours with secret agreements. #OpRussia.”

It comes as speculation has swirled in recent days over the future of central bank chief Elvira Nabiullina.

The latter was recently pictured looking dejected at a Kremlin meeting and posted a cryptic video, in which she admitted the Russian economy was in an “extreme” situation and said: “We would all have a lot wish that didn’t happen.”
