The Rogue Alpha’s Unexpected Mate Chapter 26

Deliah POV

“ What the hell is wrong with you, Zane? You are Zanian’s second and you act like you have no responsibility or care in the world. There is still a pack that has to keep functioning.”

“Deliah, I told you this and I will tell you again. I am doing the best I can, so instead of taking my head off, why don’t you try and help me? There is a reason why a pack has three ranks, because one person cannot do everything and still have time to eat.”

“I’m sorry, I just… I don’t know what to do anymore. It’s been almost two weeks and they are not back and no one has heard anything from them. The wolves that man left here don’t talk. All they do is watch.”

Zane got up and gave me a sideways hug. “I know how you feel Deliah, but taking it out on me isn’t going to help anyone. You are the most rational one here, and if you are starting to lose your mind, what hope does that give the rest of us?”

“I just I wish they would come home, or just let us know what the hell is going on.”

“ You know what you need?” Zane asked and looked at me with a smile like he had just accomplished something. I raised a brow at him and crossed my arms. “ No, but please do tell me.” I said, sarcasm dripping from my tongue.

“ You need to punch something, and by something I don’t mean me,” Zane said and moved away from me with his hands raised up in mock surrender.

I just stared at him and couldn’t help but laugh. I was never one for getting violent, but violence was never for me. “ Come on, follow me,” he said, and I did. It had been two weeks of hell. Zanian made all of this seem so easy, but when I started helping Zane, my respect for Zanian grew even more. I have no idea how he does this, (manage the pack) and manage his businesses.

Kyle is standing in for Zanian in some of the meetings, so he hasn’t been home all week. Lilly is doing better, but she is a nervous wreck.

She barely talks to anyone and if Kyle doesn’t come back soon, I’m going to send her to him.

I was so lost in thought I didn’t realize we had stopped and I walked smack into Zane’s back, causing him to stumble a bit. “what the hell D?” he half screamed at me. “I’m sorry, I didn’t watch where I was going.” He shrugged his shoulders and opened a door, I don’t even know what part of the house this is.

“ Where are we?” I asked, looking around. He looked at me like I had grown two heads. “you literally walked all the way and now you ask where we are? What the hell have you been thinking about?” Zane asked, and I could hear the annoyance in his voice. He doesn’t like me talking about Lilly and Kyle because it reminds him that he doesn’t have a mate and probably never will. I gave up on trying to keep him positive.”

“ This is my personal room. No one knows about it except for you now. This is where I come to when I need to blow off some steam. It’s sound proof and it has everything that you need.”

Zane unlocked the door and when he stepped aside for me to step in, I literally doubled over as I laughed. From the way he made it sound, this is his torture chamber and I was expecting to see beaten dummies and gym equipment or ropes with punching bags hanging from the ceiling and the smell of sweat and maybe blood to fill my nose, but what I found was the exact opposite. And I mean I have never imagined this.

There was a wall-length corner bar on the left, a pool table in the middle of the floor, a flat screen TV high on the wall, and movies covering the whole right wall from top to bottom, left to right.

I looked at Zane and just shook my head. “not what you expected?” he asked.

“ya think? I was expecting a stink and a nearly broken down room. Not, well, not this.” I said and moved my hands to make it more dramatic. To say I am shocked is an understatement. “ Well, now you know where I run too, when things get too much for me. And you are the only one I brought here, but something tells me you won’t be the only one.” Zane said and he almost looked sad. Like a kid having to share a secret toy. I couldn’t help but laugh at his expression.

He poured us some drinks and put the TV on and that is what we did for the rest of the day. Until Jeff started to link me, he was losing his mind because he had no idea where I was and, apparently, I had been gone for hours.

‘D, just tell me where you are, and I’ll come to you.’

‘ No can do. This place is secret. I will see you soon.’

‘Deliah, where the hell are you?’

‘I’m having a drink with Zane and unwinding my brain so it can start functioning again.’

‘are you safe at least?’

‘yup, and I am still in the house. I just don’t know where or what part.’

‘ What do you mean?’

‘ Nothing, I will tell you later.’

And I cut the link. I caught Zane staring at me with a raised empty glass.

“Another, he asked?”

“ Yes please, I am not expected home for a while.”

“ Does he know where you are?”

“Zane, I don’t even know where I am, so how am I supposed to tell him where I am?” I asked in a duh tone. He seemed to have gotten the message because he said nothing. We have watched about four movies and now we are watching “Lights Out”. Zane said it’s supposed to be good and that he doesn’t want to watch it alone. I’m not really one for horrors, but this could be fun. We didn’t watch the pre-view because we didn’t want to spoil the movie.

Zane POV

Everything is so out of control and my control that I have created a room where I hide. I know it is wrong because there is so much that has to be done, and everyone here is stressed and scared because no one knows anything about Zanian or Crystal or if they are even okay. Questions have been asked. Questions I have no answers to. And I can’t just make up a lie.

These wolves that have been left here literally don’t talk, they don’t leave, and whenever we try to speak to them they look at us and then look away. We have been feeding them at least, most of the time they eat and then the other times they leave to hunt. Well, they are rogues and I mean they are so used to hunting that normal food must taste strange to them.

Deliah has been on my case for the last week now and it is starting to piss me off. I wasn’t planning on showing her in my relaxing room but she is making it very difficult not to become a murderer.

I wasn’t expecting the reaction I got from her because, by the way, I made the room sound like it was a workout room or something and not an entertainment room. Kyle has been away most of the week, Lilly is depressed like most of the pack and, to make it worse, she is separated from Kyle.

I can’t wait to find my mate and feel what it feels like to love someone so much that you will walk through hell for them barefoot.

I know I gave up on finding my mate, but I still have a little bit of hope left and I will keep holding on to that hope until I’m at least thirty, which will be in six years.

Deliah and I have been watching movies and drinking cocktails one after the other. She looked like she was relaxing until I saw her eyes glaze over and I knew Jeff must be looking for her. Mates can mind link, it doesn’t matter from what pack they are or how far apart, if they’ve marked each other they can communicate and right now it is irritating me.

I tried getting her attention, but noting. I heard her sight and asked,

“another?”

“ Yes please, I am not expected home for a while.”

“ Does he know where you are?”

“Zane, I don’t even know where I am, so how am I supposed to tell him where I am?” I couldn’t help but smile at that because I thought about blindfolding Deliah, then decided against it. She looked occupied enough.

We are finally watching a scary movie with some action in it.

I didn’t tell Deliah this, but I’ve seen the preview of “Lights Out” and it looks awesome. I can’t wait to see her face.

I got the drinks and went back to the couch, handing Deliah hers and pressing play. I wanted to give her a heads up, like maybe putting down her glass or something, but what would the fun be in that?

I was just sitting there enjoying my cocktail and the next minute I was soaking wet because of a drink that wasn’t even mine.

“What the hell Deliah?” I asked and jumped from the couch. Looking at her and seeing her face, I couldn’t help but laugh. She is as white as a sheet and her hand is shaking.

“D, are you okay?”

The look she gave me was enough to send me to hell, “what the hell Zane? Couldn’t you at least warn me about this movie?”

“how? I haven’t even seen it yet?”

“I know you watched the preview.”

And that got me silenced. How the hell does she know everything? It’s like she can read my mind or something because she literally knows everything.

We cleaned up the couch and I got more drinks and then we watched again. This time I moved away from Deliah and her glass. The best decision I have ever made.

The rest of the movie was very interesting and I couldn’t help but laugh at her. She has been jumping and screaming and I’m not so innocent. I had my moments and then it was Deliah’s time to laugh at me. At this one part, I actually got up and went to sit right next to her. This is by far the scariest movie I have ever seen and I will never be able to walk through the house without putting on every light and walking backwards as I put them off again.

At the end of the movie, Deliah was a mess so I told her where we were and she told Jeff to come and get her.

I couldn’t help but laugh. When she left, I cleaned up and was out of there so fast I caught up with Deliah outside in the yard.

“ Look who is the scared one now,” she said in a mocking tone.

“ Yeah, well, at least now you feel better.”

“ What the hell have you been watching?” Jeff asked and looked at me. I wasn’t sure what to say because he doesn’t like scary movies and he never did. So telling him will just get us this very long speech about whether we could get heart attacks or die or, I don’t even want to know. I was thinking of a lie when Deliah said, “we were watching this thing where a man gets lost in the forest and then every time he tries to get out something happens and he has to start over again.”

I couldn’t help but feel proud of my girl. I guess I wasn’t the only one not feeling up for a lecture. I elbowed her in the ribs softly and winked at her. All she did was smile at me and then said goodnight with a smirk.
