Chrystal POV
I sand and stare in horror as Eliza’s words reply in my mind. “only if you kill one of your mates.” I stare at her with so much hatred and anger I can’t even think straight.
“you will regret this.” I said as I took a step closer to her and she didn’t even flinch.
“time is running out.” Eliza said looking at her nail like this whole situation is boring her.
“how do I know you won’t harm them?” I asked looking at the council and their expressions mirror mine.
Zanian shifted back and he looked like steam was rolling off him. he stepped to my side and on the other side of me Julian stood.
“what is stopping us from ripping you apart?” Zanian asked with so much venom and anger in his voice that even I felt a shiver run down my spine.
“because if you do you will never find them.” Eliza said all the while smiling at us.
“how do we even know you have them?” Julian asked narrowing his eyes at her.
“well you don’t, but please tell me I’m lying.” Eliza said and all the while her heart never spiked once and that sinister smile never left her lips. I couldn’t think straight my heart was beating so fast I’m afraid it might explode. I looked at the council and Clarissa just gave me a sad smile.
“time is running out and I am growing impatient so make your choice.” Eliza said and took out her phone showing us a clock with two minutes left.
I looked at Julian and Zanian trying to think. How do you make a choice between who lives and who dies?
Tears were streaming down my face and I felt hopeless and pushed into a corner. This feeling is worse than I have ever felt before.
I walked away from everyone and into the woods just to think for a second. I wiped my tears and cleared my mind.
When I cleared my mind everything became clear. I walked back to where Eliza was counting down with the clock and stood in front of Zanian.
He looked at me with wide eyes and a sad smile. “I love you.” I said and I snapped his neck watching his lifeless body fall to the ground. And I can’t tell him anything right now, but I will. I looked up from where I was sitting and got up slowly. I could feel something happening to me as I stood up and fell back to the ground my whole body on fire and it feels like needles is being pierced through my skin over and over again. As I scream out in pain tossing and turning on the ground everything stopped. As fast as the pain came it was gone and I feel different. I rolled over to my stomach and pushed myself off the ground.
I looked at Eliza and she had a triumphant smile on her face, but when she saw my face her smile died and she took a step back. When she showed me her phone the clock hit zero.
She switched off the screen and put the phone in her pocket.
“well as fun as that was to watch, you just killed your prince and that is punishable by death.” She said with a quivering voice and I grabbed her around the neck squeezing. “where are they?” I asked Roxy and Raven both on the service but somehow it feels different I have power running through my veins I’ve never had before.
I felt my eyes change colour and whatever Eliza saw made her afraid because she started stuttering. “I… I… Don… don’t have th… them…” she stuttered out and I squeezed harder.
“what do you mean you don’t have them?” I asked venom dripping from my voice.
Eliza was losing colour and her lips were turning blue from lack of oxygen.
“I never had them.” she said struggling to keep her eyes open.
I didn’t think twice and I ripped her throat open watching as the blood dripped from my hand. I heard Mario scream and he came at me. I growled at him and dodged his attack, grabbing him by the throat and ripping it open.
I watch as his body fall beside Eliza’s and I shifted. I heard gasps and saw a lot of shocked and amazed expressions. I felt strong and bigger almost heavier. When I looked down at my paws they were a mixture of white and a deep purple. I shook my fur out and lifted my head and roared. I have never felt so much power running through my veins. When I stopped and looked around everyone had their heads bowed even the council had their heads bowed.
I look huge compared to their human forms. I’m towering above everyone.
I walked over to Julian who was just staring at me ad for the first time I saw fear in his eyes.
‘is he afraid of me?’ I thought to myself as I walked closer to him.
“why?” he asked looking at me with a pained expression. “why him?” he shouted looking at Zanian’s body on the ground. I shifted back to my human form covering myself only to realize I still have my clothes on. ‘how is this possible?’ I asked myself more intrigued than confused. I looked up at Julian staring into his eyes, “because I marked him.” was all I said and walked over to the council. When I stepped up to them they couldn’t look me in the eyes. “look at me.” I said and they all looked at me at the same time. I heard Clarissa gasp and step forward but Derek stopped her and pulled her back. I growled at him and he lowered his head.
“what happened to me?” I asked confused at my new found power.
“you ascended. Your fox and wolf are now one.” Derek said not looking at me.
“you are true royalty.” Was all Derek said and they all bowed down. and I mean got to their knees and bowed.
I heard bones cracking and looked around me. each and every wolf on this field were on their knees with their heads bowed.
I walked over to Zanian and bent down. I laid my forehead against his and said, “I love you.” I felt Julian behind me before he even touched me and said, “where do you want to bury him?” he asked. I turned and looked at him, “he isn’t dead.” I said and saw the confusion on his face before he bent down and put his arm around me.
“he’s dead Chrystal you killed him.” Julian said and I knew I had to explain.
“yes, he is dead now but he will wake up in two or three days.” I said and Julian just looked at me.
“before my father died he told me something and I thought it was useless information until I realized it wasn’t. before Roxy rejected Zanian she marked him and when a fox marks her mate she shares some of her lives. For instance I had seven lives and I died leaving me with six, and when Roxy marked Zanian she gave him three of those six lives. Because a fox cannot live without her mate and if the fox dies the magic dies.” I explained and realization dawned in on him and he looked at me. “and you couldn’t tell us this sooner?”
“I forgot about it and only remembered when I cleared my mind.” I said and shrugged my shoulders. “Roxy rejected Zanian, how sure are you it will still work?” Julian asked looking at me. “when a fox mates they mate for life and their mark cannot be undone.” I said and got up from the ground.
“that is why I haven’t marked you yet, because what if you changed your mind?” I said looking down.
Julian stepped closer to me and put his hand on my cheek, “I will always be with you even if you want to walk through hell I will carry you.” He said and crushed his lips to mine.
When I broke the kiss I looked at the council who was staring at me in amazement.
“if it would be okay with you we would like to write a book about foxes stating everything about them and for that we would need your help.” Derek said as he approached me cautiously.
“I can give you a book that already exists and you can fill in the banks of what you know and you are welcome to ask me anything.” I said and saw their shocked expressions.
I rubbed my hands together and looked around the field at all the bowing wolves.
I howled into the darkening sky at our victory and our new life. And soon everyone followed and thousands of howls ripped through the sky including the council.
“a formal coronation will be held when everything is in order and you are ready to accept your responsibilities.” Derek said and held his hand out for me. I ignored his hand and gave him a big hug because none of this would have been possible without their help.
He chuckled and hugged me back. “thank you Derek.” I said and let go of him.
“thank you all.” I said and smiled at them.
I looked over at Julian and said, “welcome to your new home.” He smiled at me and said, “our home.”
I don’t want to go into the castle knowing Eliza and Mario’s stench is still there so instead we all camped out for the night. I covered Zanian’s body with a white sheet and laid him beneath a tree knowing that this time tomorrow he would be in a bed.
There will be no patrols for the night but Julian said his coven members will keep an eye out seeing as they don’t really need sleep.
I got comfortable on the ground and snuggled into Julian’s chest.
“we won and this is finally over.” I said to Julian rubbing my hand over his chest.
He kissed the top of my head and said, “yes and now I know why foxes were such mystery to everyone I just wish I could have learned more about them.”
“well now you have all the tie in the world.” I said and closed my eyes allowing sleep to take me.
I woke up feeling feather light kisses at the side of neck and I just want to lay here and never wake up. I smiled and turned my head just as lips smashed down on mine. I opened my eyes as I felt sparks over my whole body. I pulled away and stared into the most beautiful green eyes. It took me a second to register and when I did I tackled Zanian to the ground showering kisses all over his face. Hearing him laugh was my favourite sound in the whole world.
I got up straddling his hips and just looked down at him. I knew I would see him again, but I didn’t know it would be this soon. I laid my fore head against his and said, “I love you so much.” He chuckled and said, “I take it we won?” he asked in a teasing tone.
“Mario and Eliza is dead.” I said and shrugged my shoulders. “oh and I changed.” I said smirking at Zanian wondering what he would say when he sees me.
“she became true royalty.” Julian said with a huge smile on his face. Zanian got up taking me with him and shook Julian’s hand. Julian’s smile died and his fist connected with Zanian’s jaw.
“what the hell was that for?” Zanian asked rubbing his jaw and glaring at Julian.
“next time you want to die I would be happy to help with that and make sure you are dead permanently.” Julian said narrowing his eyes.
“Julian felt more pain when you died than I did.” I said with a guilty smile on my face.
Zanian burst out laughing and said, “so you felt pain and now I should feel pain?” he looked at Julian and he just nodded his head.
“well next time she can kill you.” Zanian said and looked down at me.
“how did you know it would work?” I looked down at the ground and said, “I didn’t I had faith.”
Zanian looked at me and every trace of amusement died from his face. “so what if I died for real? He asked and I couldn’t keep a straight face anymore and burst out laughing.
