Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Sporting Lisbon team-mate has revealed the Manchester United star bought a Mercedes as a teenager before he could drive a car.
Ronaldo started his career in his native country (Portugal) with Sporting Lisbon before becoming one of the hottest talents in world football.
In his first and only full season with the club, he became close to on-loan Belarusian star Vitali Kutuzov – who arrived from AC Milan in 2002-03.
The former striker revealed how he and Ronaldo often shared a room together and recalled a time when the future United, Real Madrid and Juventus star bought a shiny new car – before he could even legally drive it to the age of 17. .
“We were only in the team for a year, but it was often him and me,” Kutuzov said in an interview with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
And to add: “On many occasions, we have also shared a room. I remember when he got his first car, a Mercedes he didn’t even know [comment] conduct. But his satisfaction of arriving on the field with a car he bought was incredible.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has an incredible collection of cars worth £17million, including a brand new Bentley Flying Spur, which he was seen driving at United’s Carrington training ground . It is worth around £164,000.
Ronaldo also owns a slew of supercars, including three Ferraris, two Lamborghinis, two Burgattis, two McLarens, two Rolls-Royces, a Porsche 911 Turbo and numerous Audis and Mercedes-AMGs.
During their time together, Kutuzov said he shared his experiences of rubbing shoulders with some of AC Milan’s top players with Ronaldo – who was interested in learning more about his career at San Siro.
“We were two kids in a team of champions who had won everything,” he added.
“He was 17, I was 21. The goal was to show myself. He asked me about Milan and what it was like to train with players of this caliber.
Kutuzov, now 42 and retired after a career mostly spent in Italy with Sampdoria, Parma and Bari.
He remarked on how ‘hungry’ he was to score goals and said he could now see a transformation into a ‘complete’ player after starting his career as ‘more of a dribbler’.
“He was hungry to finish [chances]although now he is a different player [maintenant]”, he continued. “At that time, he was more of a dribbler. Today it is complete and contributes in every way.
Ronaldo would first join United in 2003-04 – scoring 118 goals in 292 appearances, winning the Champions League in 2008 and the Premier League title three times before sealing an £80m move to Real Madrid.
At the Bernabeu he had four Champions League triumphs and two La Liga wins – scoring 450 goals in 438 games before joining Juventus.
In Italy he scored 101 goals, winning two Serie A titles and the Copa Del Rey before sealing a fairytale return to United last summer.
