Former star striker Didier Drogba and five others officially submitted their current candidacy for the presidency of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) scheduled for April 23 on Sunday (April 11).
Touting a “unity” candidacy, Didier Drogba came to submit his candidacy earlier in the afternoon at the headquarters of the federation.
” Finally here we are! I can’t wait for the campaign to start. Trust me to bring Ivorian football to life if elected »said the ex-captain of the Elephants.
Didier Drogba, despite his status as a former glory of African football, is not necessarily the favorite in this election, due to a lack of sufficient support within the Ivorian clubs.
” We are ready for these elections and we must show a good image of Côte d’Ivoire through a peaceful vote. I ask everyone not to add more
This election has already been postponed many times since 2020, due to an imbroglio on the sponsorship system for candidates.
The FIF had been placed under guardianship in December 2020 by FIFA, which set up a “Standardization Committee” to try to resolve this crisis. Ivory Coast is due to host the African Cup of Nations in 2023.
“ The candidacy for the presidency of the Ivorian football federation is closed. Six candidates have been registered. They are: Yatte Ellele Jean-Baptiste, Arnaud Aka, Laurent Kouakou, Idriss Diallo, Sory Diabaté and Didier Drogba »said Mariam Dao Gabala, president of the FIF Normalization Committee, during a press conference.
