Athletes have the opportunity to win as many as 14 gold medals in the kickboxing events at the 2020 National Sports Festival, The PUNCH reports.
Nelson Oluigbo, Head Referee, Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria, told The PUNCH that fans would be given a treat as athletes had a lot to fight for Thursday (today).
He said, “The competition is getting tougher and interesting now as we are in the semi-finals.
“There are a total of 34 gold medals to be won in the kickboxing events and by tomorrow (today), at least 14 gold medals are up for grabs. This means that we are entering the stage when athletes are ready to give their best.”
Team Edo fighter, Uchejim Onyeka, who is in the final of the -67kg low kick category, is hopeful of winning a gold medal.
“I am very happy to be in the final, I’m ready to go for gold,” he told The PUNCH.
“It’s not just about the money, I want to make my state and commandant proud because I’m a soldier and winning the medal will make my commander a proud man.”
