Sadly eliminated with Ghana (1-1), Nigeria must quickly forget this unfortunate chapter. The only scorer for the Super Eagles in this second leg of the 2022 World Cup play-offs, however, realized the frustration of the Nigerian people and acted accordingly.
“To all Nigerians, on behalf of the team, we want to apologize for not getting the World Cup ticket,” Super Eagles captain Troost-Ekong wrote on his Facebook page before continuing.
“Above all, as Super Eagles, we share your emotions and we take our responsibility as a group. We sincerely thank the fans for their support, the president of the Federation who did everything for a qualification. A bitter pill to swallow but believe me, we will come back better and stronger.”
