Elliot had texted his family doctor earlier, and he had described Avery’s symptoms to the doctor. The doctor had told Elliot that Avery could either be ill or pregnant.
Elliot quickly dismissed the former, as Avery was a doctor herself; if she truly was terminally ill, she would not be attending Tammy’s wedding, not to mention the bachelorette party the night before.
However, the question of what could cause a person to lose this much weight in such a short period of time if not a terminal illness still plagued Elliot’s mind.
Not only that, Avery could clearly still eat. She merely avoided meat, and she consumed plenty of fruits and vegetables. “Were those not the symptoms of pregnancy?” thought Elliot.
Everyone at the table was stunned by Elliot’s words.
Mike was slightly annoyed, and he had also been taken slightly by surprise that Elliot had managed to realize what was wrong with Avery in such a short period of time. “Avery’s not pregnant,” he said vehemently.
Avery was on pins and needles. She did not look at Elliot, but she could still sense his sharp eyes on her face. She could have lied like Mike did, but she knew that her lie would not hold. It was just too easy to determine if she was pregnant or not.
She would not be able to explain why she had gagged or why she had refused the pork rib he had placed on her plate.
Elliot was a skeptical person and she knew that she would not be able to fool him, so she grabbed her purse and stood up.
Everyone turned to look at her, wondering what she was going to do.
Elliot stood up when Avery did. His long legs quickly covered the short distance. Grabbing her wrist, he dragged her out of the hall.
Tammy, who was toasting, saw the two leaving and hurried over to ask, “Why did they leave? What happened?”
Mike looked up at Tammy. “Tammy, did you know that Avery is pregnant?”
Tammy’s eyes darted around guiltily.
“Avery is pregnant?!” Jun exclaimed in shock, “That’s so dramatic! Did you all know about that? Does Elliot know?”
Mike lifted an eyebrow. “What do you think?”
Jun rubbed his hands together. “Hahahal That’s great, isn’t it? Why do you all seem so gloomy?”
No one was happy, perhaps not even Elliot, considering how terrifying his expression was when he left with Avery.
Jun suddenly came to realization and exclaimed, “Could it be that Avery’s baby isn’t Elliots?!”
Tammy could not bring herself to listen to the conversation any longer and dragged Jun away.
Elliot dragged Avery out of the hall and into the elevator by her wrist. The elevator doors shut slowly, and the tension in the air was suffocating.
Avery never thought that Elliot would find out about her pregnancy at such a time and under such circumstances.
She observed him quietly via the metal wall of the elevator.
His brows were furrowed, and his lips were pursed. He was silent. In his mind, countless thoughts arose, and he was caught in his emotions.
It was not that he had not thought of the possibility of Avery getting pregnant with his child, considering how many times they had been intimate without protection; but the discovery had taken him by surprise. Apart from that, he was also angry about the fact that Avery had kept the pregnancy from him.
“Why didn’t she tell me? Could it be that… she is pregnant with someone else’s child?” he thought.
Elliot tensed and decided to take Avery to the hospital right away.
In the quiet corridor of the hospital, the door to the ultrasound room swung open. Elliot stepped out with the ultrasound image in one hand. His other hand was still clamped tightly around Avery’s wrist.
He exploded the moment they entered the elevator. “Avery Tate, whose child are you pregnant with?!” he asked as he stared coldly at her.
According to the ultrasound, she was already two months along.
