Avery parked the car at the villa’s entrance.
The delivery man was waiting for her at the front gate.
After she got out of the car and signed for the package, her phone, which was in her bag, began to ring.
She held the package in one hand while she pulled out the phone with her other.
She answered the call after opening the front gate.
“Where are you?”
Elliot’s deep, low voice came through the phone.
“At home,” Avery answered.
“Are you not feeling well?” Elliot asked with a hint of worry in his voice.
“I’m fine. I came home to collect a package.”
Avery walked past the front yard and stopped when she reached the front door.
She opened the door. Once she was in the house, she placed the package on top of the shoe rack.
“What’s up?” she asked as she changed into her house slippers and walked over to the couch.
“Zoe Sanford is, in fact, dating Cole.”
Elliot’s bodyguard had dragged Cole to him. Cole had confessed to everything, so Elliot called Avery.
“How did you find out?” he asked.
“How did you confirm it?” Avery asked as her hand tightened around her phone.
“Cole told me. He said that he had started spending time with Zoe when I broke up with her. They have recently made their relationship official,” Elliot sounded very calm. “I don’t care that he is dating Zoe.”
If Cole had told Elliot the truth: the fact that he had not only cheated with Zoe but had also used Elliot as a scapegoat to conceal the fact that Zoe had carried his child; Elliot would be livid.
“It’s all in the past,” Avery said. She wanted the entire matter to come to an end.
Elliot had never loved Zoe, and nothing had ever happened between them. That was enough for her.
She did not want Elliot to suffer from gossip.
Even if he did not care that Zoe had cheated on him, he would still be made the laughing stock of society.
Elliot was silent for a few seconds, then said hoarsely, “I know you’re mad—”
“I’m not! I don’t care, and I’m not mad. Let’s just leave the p ast behind,” said Avery evenly.
From the sound of her voice, it sounded as if everything was really fine.
However, Elliot felt that things were not as simple as they seemed.
He used to date Zoe, and she was even pregnant with his child.
“How could Avery possibly not care about that at all?” he thought.
“I want to see you.”
Elliot was filled with guilt, and he wanted to make it up to Avery.
“Sure. Where are you?” Avery asked.
“I’ll come over to your place.”
“If you’re at the office, then I’ll come to you! I don’t have much going on today.”
Avery did not want to disturb Elliot’s work.
Upon hearing her words, the knot in Elliot’s heart loosened as a smile appeared on his face.
“Okay. I’ll wait here for you.”
He hung up and checked the time.
If traffic was smooth, it would take about half an hour to get here from Starry River Villa.
He stood up and began to make his way out.
Coincidentally, Chad needed to see Elliot and bumped into him while he was walking out.
“Where are you going, Sir?”
“I’m going to buy some stuff,” Elliot responded as he continued toward the elevators.
Chad froze for a moment, then followed him.
“What do you need? I’ll get it for you.”
“I’ll go myself.” Elliot looked relaxed. His tone was not exactly gentle, but it was very polite. “Leave the documents on my desk. I’ll take a look at them later.”
“Yes, Sir…” Chad noted Elliot’s good mood and decided that it was safe to poke his nose in. “Did something good happen Sir?”
Elliot pressed the elevator button, then turned back with a smile and said, “Avery’s coming over later.”
It had been ten minutes since Avery ended the call.
Avery was standing in her closet. She could not settle on an outfit.
She had not even seen Elliot yet, but her heart was already racing wildly in her chest.
The dress she was wearing was pretty, but she felt that it was too plain.
She took out a dress that Tammy had picked for her, hesitated for a while, then decided to go ahead and wear it.
